How to use the Power of Your Subconscious Mind

The mind is everything; what you think, you become
– Buddha

Did you know that 95% of your life is run by your automatic programs and beliefs of your subconscious mind; and only 5% of it is governed by the conscious mind?

Neuroscientists have revealed:

“The conscious mind facilitates 5% of our conscious activities during the day – and 5% they say is for the more aware people; many people operate at just 1% consciousness”

It is time to improve that, don’t you think?

I recently saw the show of a professional hypnotist. What amazing things you can do when you access your subconsciousness! During the show one man became a mathematical genius; a woman was able to bend a coin with her mind and a loving couple showed how much they are aligned in their thinking by being able to communicate telepathically. The hypnotist also demonstrated how much control your thoughts have over your body functions. Magic? No, just the power of the mind, if you learn how to use it.

But how exactly does your subconscious mind control your body?

Dr Lipton, a molecular biologist at Stanford University, says that

“the subconscious mind operates at 40 million bits of data per second, whereas the conscious mind processes at only 40 bits per second”.

So the subconscious mind is MUCH more powerful than the conscious mind, and it is the subconscious mind which shapes how we spend our lives.

Everything you do and feel follows a program that is set in your subconscious mind. This program has been defined throughout your life by your parents, your teachers, your friends, your environment and it feeds everyday from your thoughts and beliefs.

Consider, you had a school teacher, who always told you that you were a shy kid and sucked at speaking in public. Your subconscious mind keeps that program running for you and not until you re-program that belief about yourself, you can change something about it. No matter, how much speaking classes you take to conquer your fear of speaking in public, no huge success can be acquired until you change that thought in your mind about yourself. But to change it, you first have to become aware of it.

And here is where meditation comes in ;-).

During meditation you actually become aware of a lot of thoughts, and not just during meditation. You will get better at watching your thoughts during your day-to-day activities as well. You will catch a lot of thoughts where you think to yourself “hey, that’s actually pretty stupid that I am thinking that”.

Say hello to your subconscious programs!

Change your beliefs, change your life

When we talk about the relationship between human behavior and the subconscious mind, we need to ponder upon our belief system. A belief is “an acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof” (Wikipedia).psychology-544405_pixabay

You could also say, a belief is a thought, you think again and again. Our subconscious mind is occupied by elements of our belief system, which constantly effect personal desires and long-term aspirations.

I can do that. That’s impossible. Men are always unfaithful.

What are these phrases?

Do they represent your opinion about something?

Actually yes, but not just a normal opinion, they are beliefs which have taken root inside your subconscious mind.

According to neuropsychologists, behavior is driven by your emotions and your thoughts whereas it is the work of your belief system, which determines the direction of your thoughts and emotions.

To put it simple: Your belief system triggers what you do, how you feel and what you can achieve. But it can also sabotage you, like when you tell yourself over and over again that you cannot give a speech in front of those 100 people.

But a belief is just something that you accept is true even without a proof. It may be an old belief you picked up as a child, which lies deeply in your subconscious mind so that you are not even aware of that program running your behaviors.

Sounds like a lot of work when you look at your life and now decide it’s time to upgrade your belief system, and it is. Is it even possible to actually rewrite the code so you can give an amazing presentation at that meeting next time?

How can you reprogram your mind?

Humans have always been fond of their will power and cognitive abilities.

Einstein famously said

“the intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift”.

Your subconscious mind creates everything in your life. It simply allows you to construct your beliefs according to your thoughts. So what you believe is what you get. Believe that you can succeed and you will.

There are a number of techniques to reprogram your mind and achieve your aspirations, so let’s have a look.

Meditation

Meditation is about training your mind. When you meditate, you become aware of what’s in your mind, you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings at every moment. With time you get better and better at relaxing and concentrating, so you are able to make your brain more receptive, like a new blank page in the story if your life was a book where you could write whatever you’d like to happen next.

And that’s what you want, delete the bad feelings, the fear; the things that are stopping you to be happy and achieve your dreams. With meditation practice you can rewrite the story the way you like.

Affirmations

Stop saying that you cannot do something or that you are not good enough! Switch the channel and start repeating: I got this! I will succeed! I can do this and I will! The repetition of positive messages, affirmations, have a strong impact in your mind, they can change your attitude and override a negative program.

Hypnosis

According to the North Caroline Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Hypnosis is a state where your ”… ability to enter this unique state of consciousness opens the door to countless possibilities for healing, self-exploration and change”. There are a number of research efforts showing that Hypnosis can actually help you delete your bad habits like smoking, eating too much, biting your nails and much more.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT (tapping) is like neuroscience and accupuncture having sex ;-).

The EFT-techniques are a group of exercises to control your feelings, to guide you to focus on positive emotions like: love, joy, hope, gratitude, satisfaction, amusement, inspiration, relief… and to get rid of the negative ones: fear, envy, guilt, hate, worry, resentment, insecurity… With these techniques you are able to delete negative emotions around memories, delete memories and reprogram beliefs.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)

NLP was born in California in the 1970’s. NLP-techniques are related to the process of how well your brain operates. They are about the language used when triggering mind reactions. There is a strong connection between the language you speak, the way you behave and what’s happening in your mind. The NLP techniques teach you how to influence them.

Ho’oponopono

This ancient Hawaiian technique is a process of releasing negative energies from painful memories and thoughts. The book “Zero Limits” by Dr. Joe Vitale is a good starting point to learn this technique.

As scientist have researched and history has shown, the human brain is remarkable and what you can achieve with the power of your mind is exceptional. Your conscious mind holds the wheel when driving but it is your subconscious mind setting the driving rules.

You don’t like these rules?

Then go and change them!
